Second Month


Assign the resident to reference desk shifts beginning early in the second month. Give him or her two or three shifts per week. It would be useful to pair the resident with different staff members for the first, second, and third shifts. Working with two or three different reference staff  members will help the resident get to know the staff and build relationships in a work setting. It may also provide the resident an opportunity to learn more about the primary resources in that staff member's liaison areas.

Add the resident's webfolio to the library website and add a link to it on the Diversity Residency section of the website.  The resident's bio should be added to the webfolio. The webfolio should be regularly updated by the resident.

Give the resident a tour of Ferguson.

Near the end of the second month or the beginning of the third month the resident should complete the onboarding scorecard using the “Future Planning” instructions.

Schedule a meeting with Gerald to discuss the scorecard and what, if anything, needs to be changed to make the resident successful.
